City Reach Opportunities

Our desire is to reach out to the city around us ....

We've identified the following areas for investment ...

  • Apartment Ministry - right around our church facility are thousands of apartment units.
  • Pregnancy Lifeline - helping crisis pregnancies (those who are unsure about how to parent, if they should parent, etc). A local ministry with whom we want to partner. (SEE BELOW FOR A LISTING OF OPPS)
  • Neighborhood Needs - building a community center in SW Fort Worth and needs people willing to pray and offer spiritual counsel. Interested? Contact Geoff Weckel at gweckel@yahoo.com.
  • Angel Tree Ministry - each Christmas, we reach out to the children of incarcerated parents who live in our community. We buy gifts and reach out.
  • Partnering with Tarrant Net (a local ministry designed to partner churches in reaching out)

We want to stay focused on a few areas so that we can have maximum impact. We will grow as we are able. Want to get involved in one of these areas or the overall City Reach team - please contact Mark Philpot (markp@trinitychapelbc.org) or Ted Wueste (tedw@trinitychapelbc.org).

Here are a few volunteer opportunities at Pregnancy Lifeline.

From Home:

1. Scriptures - We provide a "verse of the day" everyday to our clients. We would ask for you to find scriptures that are encouraging and write them in our scripture book. If you could, we would then ask you to type them on the computer.
2. Pray for Clients/Prayer Partners - We do about 40 sonograms every week for abortion-minded and abortion-vulnerable women who are trying to make decisions or who are in very difficult situations. We need volunteers to pray over the individual girls and write them a note to be put in her folder and on her sonogram day, we are able to share that someone prayed for them during the week and wrote them a note.
3. Packets and Bibles - We provide Bibles for our clients that may not have them. When we see a client, our goal is to share the plan of salvation and to share a Bible with those that need them. We mark our Bibles with the plan of salvation, for ease of sharing and also to provide an easy means for our clients to find the scriptures when they leave. We need help highlighting and marking each Bible. We also need help putting packets together. We can provide you with the brochures and you can prepare them.
4. Writing Letters - The agency sees about 100 girls per week. We need help writing follow up letters to each girl. We send hand written, personalized letters to each girl to let them know that we care and are praying for them. We need letters written for follow up after their appointment, next appointment reminders, missed appointment follow ups, and letters to girls that are scheduled to have a sonogram.

During Group Meetings (moms' groups, neighborhood groups, fraternities/sororities, Sunday School classes, etc.):
1. all of the above
2. Baby Bottle Blessing - Pass out baby bottles for people to collect their loose change. This is a great project for children, schools, preschools, daycare centers, etc. PL provides the bottles and will insert information about the ministry. We ask participants to put their change in the bottle for a few weeks and return it when they are done.
3. Special Events - We have been able to do a few things for our clients and their families. Last year a Bible Study group took clients and children to the zoo and a picnic. One year a group served Christmas brunch and had food and fun for parents and kids. At Thanksgiving we gave out dinners and at Christmas we gave gifts. This is a good one-time project.
4. Baby Shower - Many of the moms need items for their babies. Many times the reason a girl may be considering an abortion is because she has other children and is having trouble providing for them. A baby shower could have a theme or it could just be for baby items in general. This helps us to replenish our shelves, so that we can help moms. Items can be new or gently used.

Weekend Opportunities:

Garage Sale Shoppers - We are not asking you to buy anything. You simply go by sales and if they have baby or maternity items, let them know that we would love a donation of any leftovers and that it is tax deductible. Great for the avid shopper.

At the Agency:
1. Filing - self explanatory, but very needed.
2. Client Advocates - You will be trained to see clients and to speak with them about their needs. You will sit with the client and ask questions that are provided on the intake form. Your main job is to listen, share educational information, encouragement, scripture and hope. Client Advocates typically work on a specific day, but it can be flexible.
3. Clothing/Supply Closet - There is a clothing closet, where they store all of the maternity and baby clothes as well as other items. Help is needed to constantly organize and restock the room.
4. Receptionist - Help at the front desk, greeting clients and helping them to feel comfortable from the moment they walk in the front door. Also answer phones and schedule appointments.
5. Classes - We provide classes for our clients on various subjects. Most often they are once a week, about an hour and half, for four weeks. They can also be a one time class. Right now we provide classes on the following: prenatal care, childbirth, parenting, abstinence, and a Bible Study.
6. Sonogram nurses - We provide sonograms for all of our clients that are abortion-minded or abortion-vulnerable. We need RN's to be trained to do sonograms. The ministry will pay for the course, airfare and hotel.7. Data Entry - We need help entering client information into our database. Due to the large number of girls seen per week, the agency typically stays about a month to two months behind in getting files entered.
