The Truth of Who We Are
Over the fall, we spent time studying Ephesians 6 and the fact that we face spiritual battles every day. The core of these spiritual battles can be defined by our obsession with the false self as opposed to our true self (or, who we are in Christ because of what He accomplished on the cross). Living according to truth frees us from self and ushers us toward loving God and others.
The false self is made up of three things: what I have, what I do, and what others think.
To live out of the "true self" or "who we are in Christ", we need to renew our minds (our thinking about ourselves and life). Here are some verses to memorize:
1. Instead of what I have - the truth is that I have all I need in Christ. (memorize Ephesians 1:3-4)
2. Instead of what I do - the truth is that I am complete in Christ. (memorize Colossians 1:19-22)
3. Instead of what others think - the truth is that I am absolutely accepted in Christ. (1 John 4:9-10)
