The Weight of Grace: a study of 1 Peter (1/10/2010-5/31/2010)

1 Peter was written to a group of Christians who were suffering and would have found it easy to deny Christ for an easier go of it. However, Peter encourages them to "stand fast in the true grace of God". There is a weight and a substance to grace that allows us to find strength, hope, meaning, and rest.

Remain: a study of 1 John (9/13/2009-12/13/2009)

In 1 John 2:28, the apostle John wrote "abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming." The word "abide" means to remain... Descent into Joy: a study of Philippians (8/9/2009-8/30/2009)

Ecclesiastes: the divine disruption (2/8/2009-5/31/2009)

Qoholet, the writer of Ecclesiastes, begins his treatise on the meaning of life by saying that "All is meaningless." In other words, all that mankind pursues "under the sun" or apart from God's hand is absolutely meaningless. Nothing in life has inherent value, but only a contingent value ... contingent upon that pursuit's relationship to God. Beginning with the stark realization that nothing has value apart from God, Ecclesiastes moves the reader through a series of disruptions intended to pry the hands off of this life to find ultimate meaning solely in relationship with God.

A Knock on the Door: Revelation 3:14-22 (12/7/2008-12/28/2008)

For the Advent Season 2008, we'll be taking "a fresh look at the greatest gift" by studying Revelation 3:14-22. It is in this text that Jesus says to a first century church, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock ..." Struggling as much with self-sufficiency as this first century church in the city of Laodicea, this study is a refreshing look at why we struggle to hear the knock of Christ in our lives and what to do about it!
