Belize 2008
03/06 - Boxes... (Published: Thursday, March 6 2008)
While the snow, sleet, and ice falls outside, our offices are nice, warm.... and full of boxes! In better words, they're in total disarray with piles of shirts, shoes, socks, books, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, and more. Thank you to all the generous donors who have given to make this trip a success. We're sorting and re-packing, so that 18 of us can give all the stuff away to the great people of Mayomopan next week. Meanwhile, our Belizian contact and host, Richard Smith, has secured a plot of land near the newly-constructed school in the village, for us to build our playground. And the playground itself is in Belize Customs, waiting for government approval to get it to Richard's ministry, My Refuge.
Back in the states, DVD's are being purchased and equipment packed for an evening of multi-media evangelism with adults and children, which will follow the distribution of clothing & hygiene items. Finally, our "kids' team" just got a location to carry out their daily ministry with children - Mrs. Westby, the principal of the little 4-room elementary school (which, by the way, serves 125 students - all kinder & first grade!), is making a classroom available every afternoon, for us to share Christ with the captive audience of school kids! So... deep breath... it's all falling into place, and it's going to be a GREAT trip.
We're at 5 days and counting... Stay tuned for one more update before we hop on the plane Monday afternoon! Thank you for your thoughts & prayers!
