Ecclesia: a study of 1 Timothy (1/20/2008-6/30/2008)

As move forward as a church - it is vital that we understand what it means to be the church. Not only does our understanding of the ecclesia (Greek for "church") have huge ramifications for who we do life together - it also has deep significance in how each of us lives individually. We have to continually move from an understanding of the world that begins with "me" to an understanding of the world that begins with "we." The first letter written to Timothy walks us through what it means to live together as we pursue knowing and loving God.

Malachi: Beauty from Chaos (10/28/2007-12/23/2007)

Malachi was the last prophet before John the Baptist came on the scene to prepare the way for the Messiah, Jesus. Malachi challenged the people of God (about 400 years before Jesus) as they impatiently waited for Messiah to come. Life can look like a chaotic series of events when you aren't seeing the hand of God at work in your life. Malachi's challenging message is so relevant for our day when we are faced with a similarly, seemingly chaotic world. Don't miss a week of this study as we learn to find Beauty from Chaos.

Identity: the values of TCBC (9/9/2007-10/14/2007)

For six weeks, we are walking through the values that define who we are as a church. Why? Because we do what we value - we do what makes sense to us! If we don't understand our values and embrace them, we won't live them. Our mission as a church to magnify the name of Jesus as we learn to know and love God, live in biblical community, and love others with our gifts and our stories. Our values tell us how we live that mission - we want to be: God-exalting, truth-centered, grace-filled, relationally-focused, servant-minded, and missionally-driven.

Galatians: Living the Gospel (3/25/2007-8/26/2007)

We are studying Paul's letter to the Galatians through the spring and summer 2007. The gospel is the good news that Jesus died on the cross so that sin would no longer have power over us - either in our standing before God or our daily lives. Yet, we so often struggle to live that gospel! Galatians will help us understand how to experience everything God desires for us ... that is good stuff! We'll have a weekly study guide and we'll also be memorizing Galatians together as we go through it. Get memory cards and audio CDs on a Sunday morning when the series begins!

The Problem with Church (1/14/2007-3/11/2007)

In Revelation 2-3, the apostle John records seven letters from Jesus to actual churches in the first century. These letters addresses problems that these churches were facing - from an eroding passion for Christ to persecution and suffering, these letters are filled with hope, encouragement, and direct challenges to the status quo. Just as relevant today as the day they were penned, each letter offers insight for us as a church and as individuals that make up the church.

God is Near (12/3/2006-12/17/2006)

December 3 - 24, 2006, we looked at the reality that God is Near. One of the central truths of the birth of Jesus is that in Jesus, God is near! We examined John 1:1-18 and looked at what that means and how our lives are changed when we connect with the God who is near to us in every aspect of our lives.

Dust of the Rabbi (9/17/2006-11/19/2006)

In the first century, a Jewish rabbi said to his disciples: “Cover yourself with the dust of your rabbi’s feet.” The idea was that a rabbi’s disciples should follow him so closely, that by the end of the day, the disciples would have their rabbi’s dust all over them.

Jesus taught and lived as a Jewish rabbi. He called a group of disciples and loved and mentored them so that they would embody the hope of a God centered life. Now, He invites us to follow Him as disciples …

In the fall of 2006, we dove into the Gospel of Mark to learn what it looks like to be covered in the dust of our rabbi … a life that is filled with love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, etc.
